Chances are, you have tried several different diets, and while some may have worked, others have not. Hopefully they all haven't been failures, although even if they were, you are not alone. There are many different keys to a successful diet, and those include: discipline, consistency, sustainability, and a common sense diet. The reasons most other diets do not work is because they lack some or all of these components.
First, let us go over in detail why exactly that last diet may not have worked for you. Was it discipline? This is one of the toughest aspects of diets for most people, and one you have to try your best. No matter whether your diet is a good one right from the beginning, if you do not have the discipline to stick with it, the end result will always stay the same: no change. But do not beat yourself up about it; just get back on your feet and continue on. The worst thing you can do for yourself is quit.
The next thing you need to have is consistency and and a diet with sustainability. Dieting plans that work are ones that are consistent and allow you to be able to sustain them over an extended period of time. Consistency is important because your body can become confused with a diet that changes too often, or require you to eat foods that are far different than you are used to. Dieting plans that work will allow you to transition into a proper dieting schedule and make it easier for you to then sustain the diet plan over a long period of time. Remember, a good diet plan is not one that only requires you to eat a certain way for a short period of time, but one that helps you to change your diet into a healthier one over the long run.
If your end result is to be eating healthier and to be happier with your body and your diet, you are going to have to have a diet that MAKES SENSE. No more "no carb" diets, starvation diets, or weird and out of this world diets (syrup and lemons anyone?). Eating healthy and staying fit is simpler than most people think, and a lot of us learned a healthy diet from our parents when we were young. Make sure you are eating your fruits and vegetables, your whole grains, and proteins. Eat more raw foods if you can. Try your best to stay away from foods that are high in fat, especially saturated fat, and watch your intake of salty foods. Remember?
If you are looking for a diet that is more complex, or harder to maintain, then feel free to look elsewhere, for there are PLENTY of fad diets and programs that claim to have the next best thing in dieting. But I am here to tell you, you DO NOT NEED a diet that requires you to ingest really odd foods and diet programs that cost you more than the healthy foods do at your local supermarket. Finding the right foods to eat is simple, but having the discipline and having a diet program that makes sense may be a bit harder, but remember, you CAN do it!
