Many people have a difficult time coming up with a weight loss diet plan. They search the internet for hours and bounce from one diet plan to another, sometimes experiencing results, sometimes ending up in a worse position than they were before they started as they diet and binge in an endless cycle. They also spend lots of money on these diets and diet products.
It is estimated that the diet industry in the US is worth $35 billion. Individuals sometimes spend up to $1,000 trying different diet plans, buying products and supplements, and joining weight loss or exercise facilities. This is unfortunate. The diet industry in the US is also not regulated and many of the products and diets available not only do not work, they are also unhealthy in the long term and are not sustainable. But what are the components of a sustainable weight loss diet plan?
A sustainable weight loss diet plan is one that not only enables you to lose weight, but that you can easily follow without having to starve yourself or drastically change your diet or habits. It is also one that does not cause long term health damage, such as is the case with many of the no carb diets. While for some people it may just be a matter of eating less, for most people what is required is a lifestyle change. More and more people are eating on the run these days and their diet consists of fast, processed food that is full of calories, trans fats and unhealthy additives.
A healthy diet is then an integral part of a successful weight loss diet plan. The best diet is one that includes all of the food groups and allows you to eat lean proteins, fruits and vegetables and cereals or legumes. It is best if the food is in the closest possible natural state, that is, that it is unprocessed. For some people this may mean a drastic change to the way they eat, but it is the only way that a diet plan can be sustainable and healthy in the long run.
The second component of a successful weight loss diet plan is exercise. This does not mean that you will have to join a gym or take up jogging, but you will have to do something to ensure that your caloric output is greater than your caloric input in order to lose weight. Again, for some people this may mean a drastic lifestyle change, for others it may just be a matter of doing a little bit more of what they are already doing, like walking the dog more often, or maybe taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work. Some people also find more creative and fun ways to lose weight, like joining a belly dance class or taking up yoga. Whatever you decide, you will have to be determined and remember that weight loss is something that comes in the long term, not as an overnight magic cure.
