I think, for most of us who are trying to lose weight, the biggest challenge so far has been, to find diet plans that work. I don't just mean a diet plan that will lose weight, but one that will also consider your health and well being, which many dieters seem to forget about. 

 

Most diets are laser focused on just achieving weight loss without considering your health, if you look at a food restrictive diet like the Grapefruit diet, not only does it taste horrible and offer you little nutrition, but it could also lead to a stomach ulcer because of the excessive amounts of acidic citrus you would be consuming.  It can also be dangerous when mixed with certain types of medication.

 

Another diet would be a low carb diet, or high protein diet , or "The Atkins diet"  which has been linked  to  serious health issues like, the increase of bad cholesterol (LDL) which is a major factor towards heart disease, episodes of gout because the food being consumed would create high levels of uric acid, the list goes on. These are not diet plans that work.

 

You could actually achieve rapid weight loss while on the Atkins diet as well as rapid weight gain if you come off of it, so it wouldn't be a long term solution in any case unless you were prepared to stay on it for life.

 

Most fad diets are typically just an extremely low calorie diet, and generally require you to be quite extreme in what and when you eat, and may even include the use of a supplement. The reason people might lose weight with a fad diet is purely because they would have substantially reduced their calorie intake, and not anything to do with the unusual steps they'll tell you to take.

 

The diet plans that work for you long term, are the ones that encourage healthy weight loss using natural diet foods and allow you to eat in a natural way i.e. not over loading with protein or cutting out carbs. If you take the natural option, you will not only lose weight, but you will also find it easier to maintain your new weight and do it without having to worry about your health.
