Diet Pills Or Diet Plans?

The holiday's are fast approaching, and as we know, the thought of weight gain comes to many people's minds. There are always millions of people making New Year's resolutions saying that " this year will be the year" they are going to stick to their diet and finally lose the weight. But by the middle of March, It seems that those plans have disappeared. The problem is that everybody wants a quick-fix, and in reality there is no such thing. One of these so-called quick-fixes are diet pills which come in many forms, such as, appetite suppressants, carb blockers, metabolism boosters, and fat blockers.

The truth is that Americans spend a huge 40 billion dollars a year on diets and diet related products. Many millions of these dollars are spent on diet pills. Most of these pills are made with an ingredient called Ephedrine. Ephedrine, which is an alkaloid from the leaves of Ephededra equisetina, E. sinica, and other species of the Gnetaceae family are used to produce these pills. This substance is also known as Ma Huang and Ephedra which most people are familiar with. Now we must ask ourselves, is this stuff safe for human consumption? According to the FDA, products containing ephedrine extract have caused hundreds of illnesses, including seizures, heart attacks, strokes and even death. When unsuspecting people use these pills they have a stimulant type of effect which is potentially dangerous to the central nervous system and heart.

There has been numerous studies done on this subject and the evidence shows that diet pills cause rapid and irregular heartbeat and also many people show signs of some mild addition. These pills have helped some people with weight loss to a degree by suppressing the appetite, but, when people stop eating the proper diet and cutting down on calorie intake they are not aware that their metabolism slows down. When the metabolism slows down the weight loss slows down due to the bodies defense mechanisms. The human body is created in such a way that it works hard at keeping balance, which means, that when one thing changes it causes something else to react. Example, when calorie intake slows down the body reacts by saying "hold on here" stop burning the fat, and so, slower weight loss.

Diet pills are generally not a safe and effect way to lose weight. As a matter of fact, the only true way to lose weight naturally, other then surgery, would be a good diet program, eating habits, and exercise. Many people have found programs that do work for them, and if you search around you to can find a good program. Some programs are not just happinesslifetime.com diet programs but also show people how to eat the right foods along with the right exercises and to teach them how to stay disciplined. Just remember, diet pills are certainly not a good solution to a weight loss program. And if your over weight and really desire to lose weight, I suggest going for it and putting your mind it, and sticking with it.
